False alarms cause a big problem in Greenwood

Greenwood - Police say they're wasting too much time chasing bogus burglar alarms at businesses, banks and homes. False alarms are up six percent in Greenwood with an average of seven calls per day.

"Alarm run, residential hold up alarm."

It's a typical call for Greenwood Police, but nothing wrong is the typical outcome.

"10-73, gonna be a false alarm."

Another dispatch to another false alarm.

Greenwood Police say false alarms are a major problem. Last year, they responded to 2,307 security alarms. Only five were legit.

"That probably equates to around 1,200 man hours wasted going to these false alarms," said Greenwood Police Chief Joe Pitcher. "Other things we should be doing are not being done."

What's worse, police say, many of the false alarms are repeat offenders.

Winged patterns in winter Duck hunters must use more strategy in January

Think like a duck, but not just any duck. Think like a mallard, widgeon, gadwall, or pintail that's flown thousands of miles along a dangerous migratory route to the South.Consider the exposure to hundreds of shotgun blasts witnessed and avoided and the aerial views of hundreds or maybe thousands of decoy spreads. Contemplate the effect of these and many other factors. Along the way, the duck became Mr. Duck, wary, spooky, smart, and totally in survival mode. The phrase "bird brain" does not apply. At this late season date, waterfowl are totally focused on food, migration, and safety. Ironically, the quest for safety is one of the factors that allows duck hunters the opportunity to harvest birds. Properly positioned decoys help to lure wary waterfowl into position for a shot. The trick is proper positioning and adaptability.Tony Bryan, an avid and veteran waterfowl hunter, often makes adjustments to his decoys in several ways.

Dane County bars hit by recent burglaries

Jerry Meier arrived at his bar in Cross Plains one morning in December to find the locks on the door broken, the safe missing and cart tracks leading down a hill into a farm field behind the bar.

The cart and the safe - emptied of all its cash - were later found in a pond about a mile from the bar, the Korner Keg.

It is just one of at least 20 unsolved burglaries targeting Dane County taverns over the past few months, according to the Dane County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Elise Schaffer said the burglar or burglars have been getting away with video gaming machines, cash registers and safes. Detectives don't know if the string of burglaries is connected, but that angle is being explored, Schaffer said.

Paul McCartney Removes Pictures and Priceless Paintings From ...

Paul McCartney entered Heather Mills' home and removed some priceless paintings and personal photographs, according to the estranged wife of the former Beatle. The UK Sun reports that this made Mills “furious". The paintings were worth nearly 20 million dollars (£10m).

At 5:30 Thursday afternoon, Sussex police "attended" the lodge formerly shared by Sir Paul and Heather after an alarm was activated at the home, according to a report for TMZ. Police spokesman Chris Oswick said that officers spoke to Mills, who said that several pricey pieces of art including a Picasso and a Renoir were removed from the home.

The 38 year old former model said that she discovered the paintings were missing after setting off a burglar alarm. She had planned to celebrate New Years on Sir Paul's sprawling estate in Peasmarsh, Sussex, with family and friends.
