| False alarms cause a big problem in Greenwood
Greenwood - Police say they're wasting too much time chasing bogus burglar alarms at businesses, banks and homes. False alarms are up six percent in Greenwood with an average of seven calls per day. "Alarm run, residential hold up alarm." It's a typical call for Greenwood Police, but nothing wrong is the typical outcome. "10-73, gonna be a false alarm." Another dispatch to another false alarm. Greenwood Police say false alarms are a major problem. Last year, they responded to 2,307 security alarms. Only five were legit. "That probably equates to around 1,200 man hours wasted going to these false alarms," said Greenwood Police Chief Joe Pitcher. "Other things we should be doing are not being done." What's worse, police say, many of the false alarms are repeat offenders.

According to newspaper reports, police in East Sussex were called last Thursday to McCartney's Peasmarsh estate after Mills McCartney triggered the burglar alarm at the lakeside log cabin where she has lived since separating from her husband. .
Family pet left to die at Christmas
A PUPPY has suffered a slow and agonising death after being abandoned by its callous owners in another example of animal cruelty in Newry.
The body of the terrier, which is thought to have been there for some weeks, was discovered by police in the citys Fairlawns Avenue area a few days before Christmas.
It is understood a patrol was investigating a burglar alarm which was sounding from a vacant house. After going round the back of the property, the officers found the dead puppy, which was wearing a red collar, in a small enclosure. Poignantly, an empty bowl was lying beside the body.
While it has yet to be confirmed who was living in the house, it is believed that the owners were either squatters or tenants and had left abruptly, leaving what is believed to have been a family pet alone in the property.
