Bar gutted by fire
WAUKEGAN -- Owners of a bar destroyed by fire intend to reopen the business, a Waukegan fire official said Friday. The Waukegan Fire Department is waiting for owners of the Dragonfly Inn, 2219 N. Green Bay Road, to invite them back for a final inspection before they can open, said Fire Marshal Steven Lenzi. The kitchen-area of the Dragonfly Inn, caught fire just after 3 a.m. on Dec. 16. Waukegan police initially responded to a burglar alarm at the small bar, located at the northeast corner of Sunset Avenue and Green Bay Road. After officers noticed smoke coming from the rear of the building, firefighters were called to extinguish a small fire. The fire did not spread outside of the bar's kitchen, but smoke and water damage did effect much of the building, Lenzi said. A definite cause of the fire has not yet been established, but firefighters suspect is was started by lit cigarettes left in a kitchen garbage can.
